The “HAIL, MARY” has the following significant and distinct features – as far as the Angel’s salutation or greeting is concerned:
It took no less than an angel to dare and clearly announce a mysterious and wherefore profound reality, viz., a virgin was with a child in her womb. In the order of nature and in the sphere of humanity, this is a living contradiction yet remains real and true in the realm of grace.
It pointed out the signal premises of such a mystery of virginity plus conception, viz., not merely the presence but the fullness of grace of Mary on account of the accompaniment of the Lord Himself thereby conferring on her a consequent and special blessedness.
It already identified and even named the child in Mary’s womb long before he was born, viz., “Jesus” that is “a Name above every other name,” the mere mention of which forwards sublime truths and ground realities such as in terms of suffering and eventual glory, loses and ultimate victories.
The “HAIL, MARY!” also forwards the following mysterious as well as true-to-life-facts as far as the consequent prayer of the people is concerned:
The people living here and now but destined for the hereafter and beyond, appended to Mary the mysterious title “Mother of God” as a matter of course, considering that Jesus is true God and true Man.
The people instinctively wherefore ask Mary to pray for them, considering her fullness of grace, her blessedness and stature as the “Mother of God.”
The people very wisely ask Mary to pray for them not only “now” but also at the “hour of their death” which is nothing less than full spiritual insurance.
