indecent haste

When speed is absurd, when hurry becomes irrational or when rush is without logic, when recklessness takes the place of prudence or when impetuosity escape reason then much more than simply making waste, haste already becomes downright indecent. And much more so it is when there are markedly suspect motives behind it, when the hasty thus appears to have nothing good in mind, nothing really honest nor upright at heart. And when precisely done by no one else than someone who is supposed to be the national repository of good will and intention, such becomes not simply questionable but also quite disturbing.

First,
why the indecent haste of having a new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court appointed?! This is neither normal or regular. There is so much social garbage to clean. There is also so much political errancy to correct. This is not to mention the impoverishing and deadly culture of graft and corruption crying for corrective attention as it not only oppresses the poor but also angers ordinary people. And attention is focused in the appointment of a new Chief Justice. It is thus truly difficult to assume that everything is all right in the Country and all is well for the people. Intriguing!

Second, why the indecent haste to have two prime suspects at least in the Maguindanao massacre, readily absolved and even readied for release?! There are a thousand and one criminal cases whose trials go in a veritable snail pace – although they are much less in atrocity and much less as well as in ferocity. This is not to mention the three thousand and one suspects in small crimes long since languishing in jails all over the land. Why the special treatment of specially suspect political potentates for specially heinous crimes? That the justice system in the Philippines has become dysfunctional, this is not really a secret. But that injustice would be that vulgar and gross – this is something truly shameless. Appalling!

Third, why the indecent haste of having an MILF Agreement or something the like, approved – under some king of a cloak and dagger approach?! There are so many problems in the Country: Ominous forthcoming national elections. Private armies. Political Killings. Narco-politics - - and many other criminal ventures, big unemployment and inflation, enormous national local and foreign debts, lack of educational opportunities, prevalence of poverty and misery – to mention a few intense and extensive social problems in this supposedly “Land of the Morning”. And there is the undue preoccupation in forging such an Accord or something the like. Incredulous!

There must be an acceptable and tenable answer to all these bugging question. Who knows it? What is it? When does it come out in the open?

" PITIFUL COMELEC "

It is a matter of record that COMELEC was already a big mess itself during the 2004 national Elections - - under the over-all “Hello, Garci?” Not far from the 2010 National Elections, COMELEC seems to be again in one huge messy situation. The key individuals in the Commission have been long singing the same tunes - - to the effect that “Everything is on time and in place.”, “We are 100% ready.” “There can be no such thing as ‘failure of elections’”. And similar endearing songs.

Needless to say, Malacanang is distinctly all calm on the matter and all quiet about a hundred and one serious reservations not only on the capacity but also about the dependability of the COMELEC to conduct honest and orderly, peaceful and credible elections. The public in general however whose distrust in Malacanang is low as low it can be, has been for some time now harboring serious doubts if not real anger, having grave anxiety if not downright fear about COMELEC 2010 acta and agenda. There are even some naughty individuals who say that a “Hello, Melo?” can be in the opting.

It is said that the earnestly proposed “parallel count” would delay the transmission of the number of votes for some three (3) hours. This does not seem much when during purely manual elections, it took about a month or so to know their over-all result. It is further said that the same proposal would cost the COMELEC some millions of pesos to pay those assigned to do it. Again, this does not seem much, considering the many billions of pesos already spent and still being spent by COMELEC. It is finally said that the same proposal is late. Once more, so many proposals were made long before, and all of them intended to make the elections peaceful and acceptable. But COMELEC in principle set them aside, for one reason or another.

“Between the devil and the deep blue sea.” - - this could be the big predicament of COMELEC now. But the COMELEC as such has already been in essentially the same predicament before. What’s new? Poor COMELEC!

“THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE”

Truth is liberating, inspiring, empowering. Lie is humiliating, sickening, demeaning. Truth knows no party, respects neither color nor creed. Lie hides and takes cover, likes the dark and the down under. Truth looks straight and even stares. Lie looks down and away. Truth can stand by itself. Lie needs another lie and another lie to simply go by. There is nothing like truth to live by and live with. There is nothing like lie to fear today and abhor tomorrow. The truly intelligent and really wise do not lie. Otherwise, if they do, they are in effect but fools and pretenders in intelligence and wisdom.

Those who lie most, emerge likewise most distrusted, disgusting and alienating. Those who live on lies cannot but hate the truth. This fact is neither profound nor unknown. Those who are big and fat liars incarnate cannot let go of their lies such that by lies they live in peace, to sleep soundly, and to wave and smile as often as possible. Forever they want to live by and with their lies. They find it practically impossible to let go of their lying here and now because of their fear towards the truth hereafter and beyond. Miserable and pitiful liars! They hide from the truth - - afraid of this now, later and ever.

Needless to say, truth and lie are not only an incongruous pairing but also unimaginable pals. In other words, it’s either one or the other - - as there is no such thing that is both true and false at the same time, in the same context. It other words, a truth that is partly a lie, just as a lie that is partly a truth, are both false. Truth is all true - - or nothing. In the same way, a lie that is but true in part, remains a lie. Thus it is that one is either dead or alive. Someone who is dying is precisely alive whereas otherwise, the same would be dead. In the same way, truth and lie excludes one another - - it is one or the other.

Conclusions: First, truth sets one free - - free from fear and cowardice. Second, lie chains the liar to insecurity - - insecurity from discovery and ego-reversal. Third, truth is on its own - - a liar depends on memory to remember every lie told. Fourth, the naked truth is the strongest truth - - as a naked lie is the worst one. Fifth, neither truth nor lie is an option - - the former is mandatory while the latter is not be a real choice. Sixth, truth can be told one by one - - but lie has to be told one after another in support of each other. Seventh, it is a blessing for the truthful to live long - - yet a curse for a liar to continue living. Eight, liars have governed the Philippines specially so in the past decade - - hence the poverty and misery, the displeasure and disgust of the Filipinos in general. Ninth, truth is the solution - - as lying is the problem. Tenth, truth is the basis of justice and peace – but lie is the origin of social injustice and disorder.
