stewardship

Stewardship in general refers to someone acting as an overseer, a supervisor, a deputy or a trustee of certain resources, certain agenda or assigned work.
In short, stewardship is management for others. In the temporal world, a steward is a care-taker of material resources that he or she does not really own but simply manages in the name of someone else. In other words, a steward has really no dominion over the assets the same is commissioned to supervise – to safeguard, improve and even upgrade. The striking reality of stewardship has continuous relevance and practical application at all times and in all places. The truth of stewardship specially comes to mind during these days of one big calamity after another in the Country.

People are stewards of creation. Nature and its resources, the environ and its benefits, the wealth of the land and the bounty of the sea, the benefits of clean and fresh air – all these are entrusted by their Creator to men, women and children to care for and to benefit from. Woe therefore to people if they merely exploit such wealth and potentials of nature. What a pity if they abuse and misuse the earth’s natural resources, thus leaving these wasted and destroyed. It is wherefore no secret that even silent nature and the patient environ can roar, rebel and hit back with a vengeance when so much ill-treated or maltreated by their own stewards precisely meant to care for and preserve them.

People are but stewards of what they have – little or much – such as those temporal goods called their possessions in cash and/or in kind. This is why even their so called private properties have ingrained social dimension. The truth is that no one, absolutely no one has absolute ownership of anything he/she has – even those stored in their vaults, deposited in their banks and/or brought to foreign investment houses. The underlying reality behind this apparently curious if not cryptic truth squarely consists in the long known and obvious fact that no one, no one at all, can bring and keep a miserable centavo with him or her when stiff dead. Sorry for the rudeness and even cruelty. But the truth is the truth. Period.

The above simple observations and plain reminders bring to fore the following pretty good reminders: 1st . The more people respect and care for the earth and its environ, the better for them, their children and their children’s children to continue enjoying and benefiting from them. 2nd. The more people share possession with others in need, the more their resources become useful and profitable as such goods are made to spread their beneficial purpose and attributes. 3rd. The more people become generous not stingy, some kind of a Santa Clause instead of a Scrooge, the bigger they look, the taller they stand before God and man.

By the way: Stewardship is not an option but an imperative!

“same sex marriage”

While the practice of the so called “Same Sex Marriage” is either much debated or actually done in other Countries, exactly the same event has been reportedly done somewhere in the Country, by a reportedly Bishop of a church between a reportedly male homosexual partner. No. This little observation is certainly neither meant to ridicule those concerned in the affair, nor in any way intended to pass judgment on all parties therein involved. What wherefore is the rationale of this brief and candid write-up about the reportedly reality – which is admittedly not only interesting but also intriguing – is merely to tell the truth, to say the fact.

In submission to the law of nature, in recognition of the basic physiological composition and pursuant to its consequent objective personality constitution, people of all standard, races, usual colors and ordinary creeds, from the stone age to these nuclear times, know, feel and observe marriage between a man and a woman. This is why both in the sphere of natural law and in the area of positive law, marriage has these standing fundamental requirements and attributions: One, it is between man and a woman. Two, it is between a male and female pair. Three, it is between two equals in human dignity and human rights.

Marriage of one kind or another between a man and a woman has accompanied humanity since its beginning. Yes, there were and there are still deviations from this natural norm and historical fact of marriage. But what is naturally true, rationally right and instinctively normative, remain as such – notwithstanding any argument and all practices to the contrary. This is like saying that the world is round and it remains – notwithstanding all allegations and perceptions thereto contrary. The same is marriage as known, understood and observe by people in general in difficult times and places the world over.

The conclusion is obvious: “Marriage” between a man and another man, between a woman and another woman, “marriage” among three parties, one woman and two men or one man and two women, “marriage” between two men and three women, “marriage” between a boy and a girl, between a human being and an animal, and every other conceivable variations – all these are be anything and everything except marriage as established by natural law and affirmed by human nature.

In other words, hold it on earth, in the skies or under the waters, have it solemnized by an altar boy or a Pope, do it with ordinary guests or with the rich and famous, have it done with much or no flowers, celebrate it with a singing or whispering choir – a “Same Sex Marriage” can be something, can be anything or everything but marriage. There are a good number of truths that are futile to deny just as there are facts which are ridiculous to contradict. And marriage is in truth and in fact between a man and woman as a pair of equals. Something else is anything – but marriage.

“May Bukas Pa”

”Huwag damdamin and kasawian.
May Bukas pa sa inyong buhay.
Sisikat din ang inyong araw.
And landas mo ay mag-iilaw.”

As people condole with those who lost their dear ones and sympathize as well with them in losing too their already little assets, the above song is not only significant but also very relevant. They suffered much and continue to suffer more on account of the recent devastating typhoon. They shed many tears. They harbor much sorrow. They feel great lost. But, may bukas pa.

“Sa daigdig ang buhay ay ganyan.
Mayroong ligaya at lumbay.
Maghintay at may darating na bukas.”

The well known and much heard song thus speaks of the following fundamental truths: There is the world reality that is a mixture of joyful and sorrowful events. There is human life that has its happy times and saddening days. There is man who is assured of a promising tomorrow after a lamentable today. So, may bukas pa.

“May bukas pa sa inyong buhay.
Tutulungan ka ng Diyos na may lalang.
Ang inyong pagdaramdam, idalangin mo sa Maykapal.
Nasa puso mo ay mawala ng lubusan.”

Thus it is that there is God Who is for man. This is why prayer is man’s strength and God’s weakness. God is not only all-knowing but also all-able. It is so easy for Him to reverse human misfortune. It is so natural of Him to cleanse the human heart from suffering and pain. Hence, may bukas pa.
