There is but one and only Filipino heart of its kind in the whole wide world. It is unique and distinctive. As a matter of principle, one can take the heart of a Filipino but the latter remains a Filipino at heart. The Filipino heart is both loving and forgiving yet brave and resilient as well. Many strong and cruel invaders of different nationalities tried to conquer it, subdue it. But the Filipino heart remains unconquered as it is unconquerable by itself. It has some kind of a psyche that is basically pro-industry, sweat and toil. Squarely, the Filipino heart faces poverty as he also happily faces abundance. It has an élan that is generous not avaricious, intuitively pro-others, not pro-self. Greed and covetousness are certainly not the ingrained traits of a Filipino heart.
This is not to say that the Filipino is enveloped by sanctity from head to foot. This is neither to claim that he is all attributes without any liability, all virtues without any vice. It is merely saying that it is with rightful pride that someone says “Ako ay Pilipino”. In the same way that calling someone a “Pinoy” is an endearment more than anything else. The mere fact that the Filipino Overseas Workers are appreciated the by world basically for their diligence and commitment is already a signal appreciation of the Filipinos in general, a real pride of the Filipino heart.
That is why it’s both a shame and an offense to good taste that no less than a dangerous and detestable gambling corporation claims to have a “Filipino heart”! After saying it is “global” this and “global” that, the official gambling operator itself of the government has the guts to allege that it has a “Filipino heart!” One wonders if such a boast on the part of a full and big time gambling corporation is not only a profound impropriety to Filipinos in general but also a huge desecration of the Filipino heart in particular. It swallows up as much money as possible from its clients. It generates gambling addicts who in turn damage their families and thus undermine their homes. Such is the dangerous nature and serious negative implications of the Philippine Gambling Corporation that even the government itself—its promoter and defender—forbids its own public officials to patronize it! By the way, is gambling as such really a simple matter of chance, merely an issue of luck? Why it is then that not only corporate but also syndicated gambling capitalists always win at the end of the day with gamblers always loosing in the last count? Why oh why? Just asking.

magna carta of women
”The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world.” This world famous and celebrated maxim says it all. It aptly forwards and emphasizes the standing fact and living reality that figurativelY so correctly and rightfully bring to fore the intrinsic nature, essential significance plus constitutive relevance of one and every woman in the world. For one thing, without woman or without that cited “hand”, one would be at a big loss in even finding or actually having world rulers. In other words, behind every truly great man in honesty and integrity, in business and industry, politics included, is a really greater woman whom men do not mess with, much less trample upon.
In the biblical sphere, it is narrated that man came to reality first, and woman but second. Let it be however well noted that in the same biblical framework, the woman precisely came because by himself, man was found inadequate, deficient if not completely lost if not doomed from the start. This is not to belittle man. It is merely placing him in his right place, seeing him in his proper context. Except for the very “first” man in the biblical order, woe to any man who has no mother, who does not know his mother or who disowns his own mother for whatever reason. A father of a child may be officially “Unknown”. The mother however is named – always.
In the Christian world, the fact is that even the Savior of the world was born of a woman who took care of Him from her womb to His tomb. Having great attributes, given many titles, invoked by many names, a woman she was and a woman she remained to death. The truth is that even the Church founded by her Son, took own the nature of “Mother Church”. Reason: She nurtures people through the Good News of Salvation proclaimed by her Founder, and cares for them through the Sacraments instituted by her same Founder. No wonder then that for the said Mother Church, every woman has an intrinsic dignity – with its ontological and inalienable human rights.
The “Magna Carta of Woman” as proposed by the Philippine Legislature is said to have good and welcomed pronouncements – as well as dubious and questionable provisions. More than anything else, the legislative agenda is said to be categorically committed of doing away with discrimination against women and instead specifically geared at promoting the equality of women and men. But others say that the Bill particularly intends to re-define “gender” according to presumably modern realities.
This short and simple submission is not meant to question the “Magna Carta of Women” in its central content and substantive intent – EXCEPT for its ardently avowed and strongly professed legislative promotion of the full EQUALITY OF WOMEN AND MEN – and OTHERS as the case may be – in intrinsic HUMAN DIGNITY and pursuant HUMAN RIGHTS.
Question: Does the “Magna Carta of Women” cover the Muslim women? Does the Bill legislate the equality of Muslim men and women? Do the Legislators mean to enforce the equality norm on the Muslim population of the Philippines? JUST ASKING.

stealmulus package
True or otherwise, it is said that the Filipinos are good copycats, i.e. that they have the uncanny ability of doing what foreigners do. In other words, they seem to have the ingrained inclination to imitate - to “ape” – the values and preferences, the options and acts of people they look up to and admire specially those from North America. The phrase “colonial mentality” is premised on such a perceived Filipino disposition - something that has apparently disappeared from usage in this Country. And rightly so: The “Pinoys” are a distinct people with their own admirable traits and precious talents – not to mention their potentials to be more than they actually are.
But lo and behold, nobody else than the supposedly Filipino highest public official in the Country, the presumed chief- executive in the land and the recently self-appointed Czar in the Philippines, publicly and even officially aped Uncle Sam by doing an Obama who came up with a “Stimulus Package” specifically designed to respond to the financial crisis obtaining in U.S.A. It was only after much expert economic planning, intricate business and industry gymnastic plus long political maneuvers, that the Obama Stimulus Package has become an operative reality – but not without many “if’s” and “but’s” voiced out by Tom, Dick and Harry.
Aping Obama, here comes the feeling glorious Malacanang occupant with a whooping 330 billion pesos “Stimulus Package” allegedly to prime up the long moribund Philippine economy – but with a big difference: One, it came out of a sudden from the blue with neither proper inquiry nor due consultation made. Two, it is said that the money would be taken from the contributions of workers in the private sector, deposited for their own social security at SSS. Three, who pays the money back is a non-issue under the sacrosanct principle that what Malacanang spends, the Filipinos pays.
But what is much more disturbing in this issue is the given fact that considering its standing and even outstanding record in graft and corrupt practices, Malacanang has in effect conveniently and profitably put up a multi-billion STEALMULUS PACKAGE – nothing more, nothing less. It is not really hard to foresee where the money will go, viz., some millions for this and that place with standard deductions made; some other millions for this and that project with customary commissions taken; and the big balance remaining for railroading the Charter Change, for screwing of the Plebiscite, for paying election frauds. Yes, sad and true! But what’s new?
In other words, the fundamental rationale or primary objective of the whooping 330 billion peso package is not really to stimulate the critical Philippine economic but to promote instead Malacanang self-serving interests particularly in the tenure of power – as long and as much possible. Never mind the poor, hungry and sick people. They will get used to it! Never mind the youth staging rallies, the men and women making marches, the laborers and employees voicing their protests. They will get tired sooner or later! Conclusion: On with the STEALMULUS PACKAGE!
